The Munich’s Outstanding Companies of 2018 (“Münchens ausgezeichnete Unternehmen 2018”) prize is also the city’s way to reward employee civic engagement, which is something MAN places particular emphasis on. The prize was presented by Christine Strobl, mayor of Munich.

MAN Truck & Bus offers refugees industrial and vocational training placements with a subsequent offer of employment, as well as entry qualification programs, to name just a few. This opens up long-term career prospects. MAN also motivates its workforce with the help of an internal corporate citizenship platform, which has already been used to implement plenty of projects, especially in the area around the MAN site in Munich.

“Winning this award is something we are very proud of,” says Carsten Intra, Chief Human Resources Officer and Arbeitsdirektor (Executive Board member responsible for employee relations) at MAN. “Corporate citizenship is firmly established within our corporate culture – and has been for 260 years.” He also highlights the outstanding commitment of the MAN employees and how closely the company works together with its Works Council. Works Council Chairman, Saki Stimoniaris, echoes this view: “We consider it our duty to help people in difficult situations, be it children, young people, or people who have an immigrant background.”

Mayor Christine Strobl honored the company’s civic engagement during the prize giving ceremony, which took place in the banquet room of the Old Town Hall. “In order for a city to be economically successful, it is essential for companies and not just the hundreds of thousands of volunteers to take responsibility for creating a civic society with a culture of solidarity.” This year, the Bavarian capital awarded this prize to companies who have assumed responsibility for making Munich a vibrant city with a high quality of life through corporate citizenship initiatives.

MAN also received a special mention for its corporate citizenship activities from the Kinderschutz München association. “We consider MAN to be an important cooperation partner,” says Dr. Anna Laux, member of the Kinderschutz München e.V. Executive Board. “Only recently, a generous donation was made to one of our institutions, which looks after severely traumatized children and young people.” As well as Kinderschutz München, MAN works together with other institutions such as the SOS Children’s Villages and the Johanniter humanitarian organization. It is also involved in environmental projects.
