On August 11, 2026, Beijing Heavy Truck held its new product launch conference and mid-year partner meeting in Changzhou, officially unveiling the next-generation new energy heavy-duty truck, the Dream EV, while outlining the brand's medium- and long-term strategic layout and full-category product planning.

Transport People Web interviewed Liu Gang, Executive Deputy General Manager of BAIC Heavy Truck and General Manager of its Marketing Company, for a detailed look into Beijing Heavy Truck's product technology logic, market strategy, and profitability path.

Technology Reconstructs Product Competitiveness: Forward Development Empowers Cost Reduction and Efficiency Gains.
The Dream EV pure electric heavy-duty truck unveiled this time is developed based on the exclusive "Yi" platform through forward engineering. It is equipped with the E·Power digital-intelligent power domain and the E·Platform native pure electric architecture, featuring three core advantages of intelligence, modularization, and lightweight design, achieving a leap from "policy adaptation" to "value-based operation."

Liu Gang pointed out that the biggest upgrade of the Dream EV lies in the full-stack self-developed collaboration and enhancement of the core three-electric system. By restructuring key systems such as the battery, electric drive, and electronic control, the Dream EV delivers tangible results in cost reduction, weight reduction, safety, and reliability.

In terms of curb weight control, the Dream EV adopts CTB (cell-to-body) battery pack-chassis integrated technology, eliminating the heavy frame. This not only reduces hardware costs by RMB 7,000 per vehicle but also achieves significant weight reduction. The model with a 2,550mm wheelbase weighs only 9.15 tons, while the upcoming 2,350mm wheelbase version further reduces this to 8.95 tons, unlocking more cargo-carrying revenue space for users.

Thanks to the upgraded battery architecture, the Dream EV accommodates a battery capacity of over 600 kWh on a short 3,450mm wheelbase, making it the first pure electric heavy-duty truck in China to achieve this combination. The vehicle maintains the same wheelbase as its diesel counterparts, ensuring agile turning and further optimized handling performance.

Safety has also been strengthened. The Dream EV lowers the battery pack height, allowing drivers to observe the cargo box through the rear window, and reserves a 20-centimeter safety gap between the battery pack and the cab. Combined with technologies such as automatic cab rearward displacement upon collision, cage-style body structure, and battery thermal runaway prevention, as well as an intelligent active safety system, overall protection capabilities have been comprehensively enhanced.

In terms of power, the Dream EV is equipped with a 7-in-1 highly integrated controller and an oil-cooled flat-wire motor with 99.7% efficiency. Coupled with new control logic, the energy recovery efficiency exceeds 80%, allowing the 600 kWh version to achieve range performance comparable to a 660 kWh configuration. Based on real-world operating scenario calculations, the Dream EV consumes less than 0.98 kWh per kilometer, with minimum electricity costs of just RMB 0.5 per kilometer.

Regarding quality and durability, the vehicle has undergone rigorous validation across 20 million kilometers under all operating conditions. The chassis features a secondary paint process thickened by 30-50 micrometers, combined with IP69K waterproofing and passenger-car-grade sealing technology, further enhancing reliability. Additionally, the lead-acid starter battery, which is prone to freezing in winter, has been upgraded to a long-life lithium battery, addressing user pain points down to the smallest details.

At the launch event, the Dream EV secured orders for 800 units, affirming its market recognition.
Strategic Layout and Product Matrix: Multi-Track Parallel Approach to Build Comprehensive Advantages.
At the mid-year partner meeting, Beijing Heavy Truck defined its "3+1" medium- and long-term strategy: focusing on three core tracks of long-haul, overseas markets, and new energy, while addressing the shortcomings in the short- and medium-haul business segment.
The company also set a five-year development target: achieving break-even in 2027 and formal profitability in 2028; by 2030, aiming for profits exceeding RMB 200 million and a market share of over 12%, committed to building a specialized mid-to-high-end brand with comprehensive development across oil, gas, and electric powertrains.

Facing the full-industry-chain competitive landscape, Liu Gang candidly stated that new energy will be the top priority in future layouts. Leveraging the substantial resources of the BAIC Group, Beijing Heavy Truck has established the "oil, gas, electric and hybrid, multi-track parallel" product strategy.
According to the plan, Beijing Heavy Truck will intensively roll out new products in the second half of the year: in the long-haul track, it will launch the Dream Pro 16L gas engine and the Dream Hybrid 1000 series products; in the short- and medium-haul track, it will update the Dream Youth series gas models and continuously iterate the Dream EV new energy products, completing the cargo-carrying diesel and electric product lineup.

Refining Channels and Going Global: Long-Termism-Driven Scale Growth.
Regarding channel strategy, Liu Gang explicitly stated that Beijing Heavy Truck will not blindly expand its network, and the total number of dealers will be controlled within 300. He candidly remarked, "Too many dealers inevitably lead to price wars that erode profits. As long as partners can secure local market share, we will provide them with full regional protection and profit margins."
According to Liu Gang, to enhance terminal profitability, Beijing Heavy Truck is simultaneously advancing cost reduction and efficiency improvement. The bulk coal transport models, which previously had relatively high costs, have seen unit costs reduced by RMB 30,000-40,000 through supply chain re-matching, development of mid-width cabs, and optimized configurations, boosting dealer confidence in expanding into this market segment.

Meanwhile, thanks to the highly intelligent Changzhou plant and a streamlined workforce structure, Beijing Heavy Truck has controlled its monthly break-even point at 2,300-2,500 units, setting next year's production and sales target at 30,000 units.
The overseas market represents another major growth engine for Beijing Heavy Truck. Liu Gang revealed that the company has rapidly assembled an overseas team of over 100 people in the past three months, which will expand to 300 by year-end. Currently, products such as the Dream EV have passed EU WVTA whole-vehicle certification, and deliveries to the European market are scheduled to commence this month.
Deepening User Value: Exclusive Benefits Safeguarding Full Lifecycle Operations.
At the launch event, Beijing Heavy Truck officially established the "Million-Kilometer Dream Club," offering exclusive benefits covering maintenance, vehicle purchase, operations and maintenance, and value-added services to benchmark users whose mileage surpasses one million kilometers before August 31, 2026.

For vehicles operating with one million kilometers on the odometer, Beijing Heavy Truck provides free engine maintenance and a RMB 50,000 repurchase subsidy. Additionally, six premium services are offered, including free parking, dining and rest amenities, annual maintenance care funds, a dedicated 400 service hotline, compensation for overtime delays, and professional operational data analysis. Progressive incentive policies are also in place to encourage users to pursue the two-million-kilometer benchmark.

Beijing Heavy Truck continues to advance product innovation, channel quality enhancement, and overseas expansion. Leveraging its full-scenario product matrix and refined operations, the company is steadily consolidating its competitiveness, accelerating market growth both domestically and internationally, and forging a robust path of breakthrough amidst intense market competition and the wave of low-carbon transformation.
