September 8 news: The General Office of the Ministry of Transport issued the "Technical Guidelines for Low-Altitude UAV Applications in Highway Emergency Clearing and Reopening (Trial)" and the "Technical Guidelines for Low-Altitude UAV Applications in Highway Slope Inspection (Trial)", establishing standardized technical guidance for UAV operations in the highway field.

Empowering Highway Maintenance and Emergency Response: Two UAV Technical Guidelines Fill the Gaps in Industry Standardization

The two guidelines focus respectively on two major scenarios: emergency clearing and reopening for highway emergencies, and highway slope inspection. The emergency clearing and reopening guideline standardizes UAV work such as disaster site reconnaissance, assisting emergency rescue decision-making, and on-site emergency support; the slope inspection guideline addresses various highway slope inspection scenarios such as routine, periodic, and emergency inspections, clarifies the UAV inspection workflow, and improves hazard identification efficiency.

The documents require local transport authorities to implement them in accordance with local conditions, promote the integration of UAV results with existing highway management systems, and improve the digital and intelligent level of highway emergency clearing and reopening and slope maintenance. This move will change the past situation in which UAV operation standards varied across regions, help rapidly handle mountain highway disasters, and ensure traffic safety on trunk freight corridors.
