Qingdao accelerates the large-scale application of electric heavy-duty trucks

At Shandong Port Qingdao Port Qianwan Port Area, an electric heavy-duty truck drove into a battery swap station, completed battery swapping in 5 minutes, and drove back to the wharf to continue operations. Such scenes are now repeated hundreds of times a day at Qingdao Port.
Recently, Qingdao's first batch of expressway service area and national/provincial road heavy-duty truck charging demonstration stations -- the Shenhai Expressway Jiaozhou Service Area and the Huangdao District Henghe West Road Electric Heavy-duty Truck Charging Demonstration Station -- were put into operation respectively, marking a key breakthrough in the construction of a green energy replenishment corridor for electric heavy-duty trucks along Qingdao's national and provincial trunk highways.
Data show that as of July 31, the penetration rate of electric heavy-duty trucks in Qingdao reached 37.1%, higher than the provincial average. At present, about 790 electric heavy-duty trucks are operating in the port area of Qingdao Port, accounting for more than 70%; 7 intelligent battery swap stations have been built and put into operation, and the construction of a battery swap big data center has been completed.

With the energy replenishment network taking the lead, Qingdao's electric heavy-duty trucks are extending from ports to trunk corridors, and the city's promotion and application of electric heavy-duty trucks has entered an accelerated stage of "ports reaching scale, corridors deploying nodes, and industries coordinating." By the end of August, the expressway green energy replenishment "ring corridor" for electric heavy-duty trucks covering 7 cities including Qingdao, Jinan, and Weifang will be connected. By 2027, Shandong will build a "four vertical and two horizontal" 2,600-kilometer expressway energy replenishment corridor and a "four vertical and three horizontal" 6,600-kilometer national and provincial road energy replenishment network.
The charging station at the Jiaozhou Service Area of the Shenhai Expressway is one of the key facilities for Shandong to build a zero-carbon freight corridor along the Shenhai Expressway, and can simultaneously meet the charging needs of 8 electric heavy-duty trucks; the Henghe West Road charging station in Huangdao District has a total of 30 charging guns and can simultaneously meet the charging needs of 15 electric heavy-duty trucks, mainly serving collection and distribution transport for the Dongjiakou Port Area. Data from all charging stations is connected to the provincial public information service platform, equipped with remote display and early warning reminder functions, so charging status can be checked in real time and is safe and controllable.
For the large-scale application of electric heavy-duty trucks, scenarios and energy replenishment facilities alone are not enough; another piece of Qingdao's puzzle is industry. At present, Qingdao has formed a complete industrial chain from complete vehicle manufacturing to core components. The Jimo Automobile Industry New City has gathered complete vehicle projects such as FAW JIEFANG and Chery, driving more than 400 core component enterprises to gather around it, and an industrial closed loop of "Made in Qingdao + Applied in Qingdao" has initially taken shape.
