On Dec.5, “The Launching Ceremony of The First Batch of BYD Purely-electric Double-decker Buses  in China” was held in Lianhuashan Bus Terminal, Shenzhen. As the first model of step-free purely-electric double-decker bus in the world, K8S accepted the review by President Xi Jinping in London, Britain last October. This year it was launched for the first time in China and the first batch of vehicles were delivered to Shenzhen Bus Group. In the future, there will be 30 BYD purely-electric double-decker buses in operation along Shenzhen’s sightseeing routes. They will bring more comfort and warmth to the passengers, make the city more humanitarian and establish a city bus image of “art, quality and low carbon”.

To Spread the Culture of Public Transport, China’s First Batch of K8S Were Delivered to Shenzhen Bus Group

During President Xi’s visit in Britain last October, the red-colored BYD double-decker bus has become a beautiful scenery line among the various events regarding Sino-British creative industry exchange. President Xi, Madame Peng Liyuan got on the world’s first purely-electric double-decker bus manufactured in Shenzhen along with Prince William and Princess Kate. The 5 BYD buses that were in operation in London have become Britain’s industrial signature and MADE-IN-CHINA gets integrated into British culture, bringing environment-friendly public transport for its citizens. From London to Shenzhen, from single-decker bus to double-decker bus, BYD joins hands with Shenzhen Bus Group to introduce the ideas of art, quality and low carbon to China. It takes the initiative to deliver electric double-decker bus to Shenzhen, providing its citizens with diversified transport options and quality transport service.

It is reported the first 3 K8Ss will be put into the operation of Route 113 Bus Line which travels through the scenic spots like the Window of the World, Splendid China Folk Culture Village and Horticulture Expo Garden. In the future there will be accumulatively 30 BYD purely-electric double-decker buses shuttling between Shenzhen’s various major tour bus lines. To Create the World’s First Model of Step-free Purely-electric Double-decker Bus With Unique Humanitarian Care

K8S is the world’s first model of step-free purely-electric double-decker bus created by BYD for public transit market. It has a beautiful profile with length/width/height at 10.2m/2.5m/4.2m. It adopts the design of low front bar, acquiring premium front view and lower field of vision. In its internal space configuration, K8S adopts step-free low-floor structure and 2 double swing door design. The spacious whole vehicle can hold 72 people. The height of the upper floor and that of the lower floor are distributed legitimately enough to make sure the heads of passengers standing on the lower floor will not touch the ceiling and passengers can walk comfortably and easily on the upper floor. Regarding power train, K8S uses BYD’ wheel drive motor which is globally advanced, equipped with large-capacity iron battery. The distance per charge is as high as 300km, which is sufficient for the power demand of driving buses.

As a double-decker bus highly integrating science & technology and culture, K8S has unique humanitarian scent as well. The whole vehicle is equipped with rear-mounted air conditioner whose cooling capacity is enough to satisfy the need of passengers on both floors under hot temperature. Meanwhile, an independent mini-AC is built in the driver’s area to guarantee a comfortable working environment, solving the problem of heat in the area in conventional double-decker buses. Furthermore, the whole vehicle adopts full aluminum alloy body, equipped with advanced technologies like turning delay function, smart key system, while the battery and electric equipments are placed high enough to allow the whole vehicle to be 500mm beneath water.

The Launching of the Bus, BYD’s Movement to Harness Global Warming

Shenzhen is the city that runs the most electric transit buses in the world. By 2017 it will have finished the updating of over 15,000 electric buses in the whole city and become the world’s first city that electrifies its public transit buses. Early in 2010, the initial cooperation between BYD and Shenzhen Bus Group resulted in the joint venture which is the world’s first company that runs purely-electric taxies. Currently Pengcheng Electric Vehicles runs as many as 850 purely-electric taxis. He requested green, recyclable and low-carbon development should be encouraged in alignment with promoting supply-side structural reform. BYD will help promote the adjustment of city industrial structure and ecological development through advanced new energy technology and the provision of low-carbon, environment-friendly public transport. It will help more and more cities step on the path to green and sustainable development.
