2016: Sale of Heavy Trucks Leads Commercial Vehicle Market with A Growth of 96.7%

As indicated by the latest data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in Nov. 2016, production and sales of automobiles maintain a growing tendency. Compared to the last month and the same time last year, this month’s growths of production and sales volumes both exceed 10%, creating a new high in history. 

In November, the sales volume of commercial vehicles was 348,500, up 13.98% compared with last month and up 11.70% compared with the same time last year. Between Jan. and Nov., 3,269,900 commercial vehicles were sold, up 5.30% compared with the same time last year. Viewed from the point of the distribution of vehicle types, both the sales of passenger vehicles and freight vehicles increased quickly compared to the last month; compared to the same time last year, the sale of freight vehicles maintained quick increase while that of passenger vehicles keeps declining.

In November, the sales volume of freight vehicles was 296,800, up 12.49% compared to last month and up 16.38% compared to the same time last year.

Among them, 91,800 heavy-duty freight vehicles were sold, up 31.93% compared to last month and up 96.67% compared to the same time last year; 23,300 medium-duty freight vehicles were sold, up 28.10% compared to last month and up 16.36% compared to the same time last year; 130,700 light-duty freight vehicles were sold, up 3.52% compared to last month and sales decreased by 3.95%; 50,900 mini-trucks were sold, up 2.34% compared to last month and sales decreased by 2.46%.

Viewed from the synthesis of the data from January to November, the sales volume of freight vehicles is 2793,400 vehicles, up 8.09% compared to the same time last year. Among them, 657,600 heavy-duty freight vehicles were sold, up 31.31% compared to the same time last year; 200,500 medium-duty freight vehicles were sold, up 15.40% compared to the same time last year; 1,375,700 light-duty freight vehicles were sold, up 2.59% compared to the same time last year; 559,600 mini-trucks were sold, up 12.48% compared to the same time last year.

What is not to be ignored is the new regulation regarding harnessing the truck overloading problem implemented in 2016 and the new GB1589 standard played a vital role in propping up the demand for heavy trucks. In addition to this, express delivery vehicles for couriers have become the fastest-growing market segment in heavy truck field. Based on the bullish tendency in the total sales volume of heavy truck market in 2016, the sales of heavy truck industry in 2017 are expected to exceed 800,000 vehicles.
