On November 10, the 2025 China International Commercial Vehicle Exhibition grandly opened in Wuhan. China's First Aluminum Alloy Wheel-End Axle for Large-Scale Application
At the exhibition, Huajin Axle's aluminum alloy wheel-end axle became the center of attention. Compared to traditional iron wheel-ends, this product demonstrates significant advantages in lightweighting, heat dissipation, corrosion resistance, maintenance intervals, and lifecycle value retention.

According to Kuang Caijun, Director of the Product Planning Department at Huajin Axle, the company initiated the R&D project for the aluminum alloy wheel-end axle as early as 2019, predating the implementation of relevant domestic regulations in 2020. The goal was to address the industry's dual urgent need for lightweighting and reliability. Following rigorous internal testing in 2020 and comprehensive market trials in 2021, Huajin successfully brought this product to market, making it the first aluminum alloy wheel-end axle to achieve large-scale application in semi-trailers in China.
Leading Lightweighting and Cost-Effectiveness
Through advanced forging processes and a honeycomb structural design optimization, the Huajin aluminum alloy wheel-end axle reduces the hub weight to just 12 kilograms, far below the approximately 25 kilograms of traditional iron hubs. When applied to a three-axle lightweight air suspension system, the entire vehicle can achieve a weight reduction of up to 220 kilograms. Based on current freight rates and average annual mileage, the lightweighting alone can generate an additional annual revenue of over RMB 6,600 per vehicle.

Benefiting from the excellent thermal conductivity of aluminum alloy, its heat dissipation efficiency is four times that of cast iron. Combined with optimized airflow channels inside the brake disc, this effectively reduces the risk of thermal fade and extends the service life of braking system components. Coupled with high-quality maintenance-free wheel-end technology and long-life grease, the axle can achieve a maintenance-free interval of up to 500,000 kilometers, significantly reducing downtime losses, service visits, and maintenance costs. This can save users an additional RMB 8,000 per year.
According to the principle that "reducing unsprung mass by one kilogram is equivalent to reducing sprung mass by ten kilograms," the reduction in unsprung mass brought by this axle system also yields considerable fuel economy benefits, further enhancing its economic value, particularly suited to current demands for efficient logistics and compliant transport.

Empirical Evidence from an 800,000-Kilometer "Veteran" Axle
To visually demonstrate product reliability and extended service life, Huajin specially displayed an aluminum alloy wheel-end axle assembly repurchased from an actual user. This axle, produced in April 2022, had accumulated over 820,000 kilometers of actual operation, primarily on high-speed line-haul routes from Guangzhou to Xi'an and Shandong, consistently operating at full load.
On-site disassembly revealed that the wheel-end assembly was in good condition with no oil leakage. Flaw detection showed no fatigue cracks in core components such as the hub, bearings, oil seals, bolts, and ring gear, indicating structural stability.

The brake disc, with an initial thickness of 45mm, had a remaining thickness of 39mm, having worn only 6mm. This is well above the replacement limit of 37mm, with no thermal cracks on the disc surface. This is attributed to the rare elements added to the material by Huajin and the coordinated braking strategy between the tractor and trailer.
The anti-loosening mark on the brake caliper fixing bolts remained intact, proving the caliper had never been disassembled for repair. The critical dust boot seal was excellent, with no moisture intrusion or corrosion, ensuring sensitive and reliable brake response. The brake pads had been replaced only twice in total, with an average replacement interval exceeding 250,000 kilometers.
All components of the air suspension, including shock absorbers, air springs, and bushings, were functioning normally. The shock absorbers showed no oil leakage, and their damping values remained within design parameters. The main beam welds showed no cracks and the structure was free of deformation. The unique anti-loosening washer design ensured virtually no wear on the connecting bushings after extended use.

This real-world case not only confirms the advanced design and manufacturing reliability of Huajin's aluminum alloy wheel-end axle but also reveals a key factor behind its outstanding performance: "tractor-trailer matching." The user's tractor was equipped with a hydraulic retarder, which worked in efficient synergy with the trailer's disc brake air suspension system, collectively contributing to the walking mechanism's extended lifespan and exceptionally low maintenance costs.
