Recently, President Xi Jinping was invited to hold a tripartite meeting between Chinese, French and European leaders with French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Von der Leyen at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

　　 Xi pointed out that China has always viewed Sino-European relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, taking Europe as an important direction of great power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and an important partner in realizing Chinese-style modernization, and hoping that Sino-French and Sino-European relations will promote each other and develop together. As the world enters a new period of turbulence and change, China and Europe, as two important forces, should adhere to the positioning of partners, adhere to dialogue and cooperation, deepen strategic communication, enhance strategic mutual trust, build strategic consensus, carry out strategic collaboration, promote the stable and healthy development of China-EU relations, and make new contributions to world peace and development.

　　 Xi emphasized that China-EU relations have strong endogenous momentum and broad development prospects, and are not directed against, dependent on, or constrained by third parties. It is hoped that EU institutions will establish a correct perception of China and formulate a positive policy toward China. The two sides should respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and safeguard the political foundation of China-EU relations and the basic norms of international relations. The two sides should organize a new China-EU leaders' meeting as well as high-level dialogues on strategy, economy and trade, green and digital, and build a stable and mutually trusting industrial chain and supply chain partnership. They should make good use of China's visa-free policy for European countries and arrangements to facilitate the arrival of expatriates in China, encourage civil and local exchanges, and cooperation in education and scientific research, so as to improve the public opinion base and atmosphere of public opinion in China-EU relations.

　　 Xi pointed out that China's new energy industry, which has honed its real skills in open competition and represents advanced production capacity, has not only enriched global supply and eased global inflationary pressure, but also made great contributions to the global response to climate change and green transformation. Whether from the perspective of comparative advantage or global market demand, there is no such thing as "China's overcapacity problem". The essence of China-EU cooperation is to complement each other's strengths and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results, and the two sides have extensive common interests and huge space for cooperation in green and digital transformation, so the two sides should properly deal with economic and trade frictions through dialogues and consultations, and take care of the reasonable concerns of both sides.
