At the 2026 Hannover International Transport Exhibition (IAA Transportation 2026), CUMMINS, under the theme "Many Paths Forward", focused on showcasing diesel, natural gas, hybrid, battery electric, and hydrogen-related technologies, covering engines, power batteries, e-axles, hydrogen storage and transportation, and components, among other fields.

Ma Ji, General Manager of Marketing and Sales of the CUMMINS China Engine Business Unit, was interviewed by Transport People Network and shared his views on localized product development, multiple power routes, and Chinese commercial vehicles going global.
Q: How does CUMMINS help Chinese automakers go global through localized products and technologies?
A: Everyone attending IAA, the world's largest commercial vehicle show, must have a very strong impression: the lineup of Chinese automakers exhibiting this time is very strong, covering many technology routes, and many technologies are already at the world's leading level.

From this 15-liter gas engine beside me, you can see. This product was developed entirely for the needs of the Chinese market. Over the past two years, our gas engine market has been very hot.
But at the same time, CUMMINS also has demand for this kind of large-displacement, high-horsepower gas engine in some other markets around the world, such as Latin America, including Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil.
Therefore, for the gas engine developed locally in China, we also optimize it in combination with the operating conditions of the destination countries to which Chinese OEMs export, match it to vehicles in China, and effectively support the power needs of Chinese OEMs in these regions.
Q: What is the significance of technologies led by the Chinese team being able to be promoted to the global market?
A: The X15N natural gas engine that CUMMINS is displaying in Europe this time has a maximum power of 485 kW and a maximum torque of 3,000 N·m, and was developed for heavy-duty operating conditions such as long-haul transportation.
Two years ago, we actually successfully introduced this 15-liter gas engine produced and designed in China into the North American market as well. This is not a simple introduction; it precisely reflects the advantage of CUMMINS as a global company.
The engine we produce in China is the same in basic architecture, but it is still different. For road conditions in different regions, we conduct corresponding R&D. In the future in Europe, when we introduce this product, we will also optimize it for European road conditions.
For global markets, doing different product development is also one of our core logics now, called FFA. Targeted optimization for different applications and different markets.
Q: As an important enterprise in the power field, what role will CUMMINS play in different global markets in the next 3-5 years?
A: Through this exhibition, everyone can also see that not only traditional diesel engines and gas engines, these traditional fuels, are on display, but also our hydrogen fuel, including hydrogen fuel engines, and battery electric tractors, as well as hybrids. This exhibition presents a very rich set of multiple technology routes.

In fact, we have made a great deal of reserves in this area. Today at the booth, everyone can see that we have traditional diesel engines, gas engines, our e-axles, and multiple technology routes for future clean fuels.
Therefore, the next 3-5 years will be an era in which multiple technology routes coexist. There will be different presentations under different application conditions, different countries, and different infrastructure situations.
CUMMINS always adheres to one philosophy: to bring maximum value to customers and provide customers with valuable technology routes. CUMMINS is fully prepared.
Q: Which of the new products released today can be applied to Chinese commercial vehicle companies?
A: At this IAA, CUMMINS simultaneously displayed B7.2, X10, and X15N, as well as Accelera e-axles, batteries, and NPROXX hydrogen storage and transportation products, etc.

All these products released today have the opportunity to be installed on Chinese OEMs. For example, the 7.2-liter engine we launched, oriented toward future Euro 7, if Chinese OEMs also want to enter the European market in the future, they can also install this 7.2-liter medium-sized engine that we specially designed and developed for Europe and America.

Through this exhibition, we are full of confidence in China's commercial vehicle industry. China has been and will continue to be the world's largest commercial vehicle market, and also the most competitive market. CUMMINS has been rooted in China for 50 years, growing together with this market, and we have accumulated very rich foundations.
For the future, we will support Chinese OEMs well, not only for traditional markets such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America, but also for entering the high ground of commercial vehicles, such as the European market. We are also fully prepared.

Transport People Network commentary:
At this event, CUMMINS, with its "Many Paths Forward" multiple power route, demonstrated the pragmatism and forward-looking vision of a global power giant. Through a full-matrix product line covering clean diesel, natural gas, hybrid, battery electric, and hydrogen, it ensures that customers in different countries and under different infrastructure conditions around the world can obtain suitable solutions.
At the same time, from "Made in China" to "R&D in China, serving the world," CUMMINS' strategy in China has deepened significantly. It not only proves the technology-leading position of Chinese commercial vehicle application scenarios in some segmented fields, but also demonstrates the success of CUMMINS' "FFA (optimization for applications and markets)" core logic, deeply integrating global platform resources with localized innovation.
At present, Chinese commercial vehicles are in a critical period of leaping from "product going global" to "high-end, branded going global." Facing a more complex overseas market environment and stringent emission standards, CUMMINS, with its rich technology reserves and globally interconnected validation system, provides core support for Chinese commercial vehicles to move toward a broader world stage.
