Renault was founded in 1898 and has a long and brilliant history. The company takes its name from the surname of its founder, Louis Renault. Over more than 110 years, the company's logo gradually evolved into today's diamond-shaped logo, symbolizing that "Renault" can compete, survive and develop in infinite (four-dimensional) space. Group Introduction Renault is one of France's largest industrial companies and one of Europe's most important automobile manufacturers, with a total workforce of 122,615. In 2011, Renault sold 2,722,062 vehicles worldwide, up 3.6% year-on-year, setting a record high.
In 1999, Renault established a global alliance with Nissan and accelerated its pace of globalization, successively acquiring Romania's Dacia and South Korea's Samsung Motors. Today, the Group's three major brands—Renault, Dacia and Renault Samsung—are sold in 118 countries and regions around the world. In April 2010, the Renault-Nissan Alliance once again joined forces with Daimler Group to establish a strategic partnership, becoming the world's third-largest automotive group today. Competitiveness, innovation and global markets form the three cornerstones of its profitable growth strategy.
At the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault launched its new brand slogan—Drive the Change. This slogan is faithful to Renault's values and expresses Renault's ambition, as an innovative and human-oriented automobile brand, to lead the public toward the concept of sustainable mobility.
In 2011, the Group launched a six-year strategic plan, "Renault 2016—Drive the Change," aimed at achieving two goals: ensuring the company's growth and increasing free cash flow. That is, from 2011 to 2013, Renault plans to achieve global vehicle sales of 3 million units and generate at least EUR 2 billion in free cash flow.
